Q. How much does it cost to use the fitness centre?
A. We offer zero-term memberships, fixed-term memberships and casual use of our fitness centres. Refer to our membership and pricing page to find out more.
Q. How much does it cost to go swimming?
A. Swimming is FREE for children 16 years and under across all our centres except for Mt Albert Pool and Leisure Centre. Prices for adults depend on which pool you go to; see our membership and pricing page to find out more.
Q. Where is my closest centre?
A. Find your closest centre on our interactive map or filter by area: central, east, north, south, west.
Q. How do I join?
A. You can join online, or call, email or drop into your local centre.
Q. Does my membership give me access to all Auckland Council fitness centres?
A. Not yet! We’re working on a membership that will. Watch this space.
Q. What should I wear to go swimming?
A. Only approved swimwear must be worn while swimming. Street clothes such as cotton clothing, t-shirts and undergarments may not be worn. For more information, see our What to Wear poster.
Q. What should I wear during my swimming lesson?
A. Wear normal swimwear such as togs and fitted rash shirts. Goggles are recommended for all participants over the age of three. All participants over the age of three must wear swimming caps. For your safety, streetwear and baggy clothing is not allowed; see our What to Wear poster for more information.
Q. Can I pay for lessons weekly?
A. New bookings must be paid in full at the time of booking. Rollover bookings must be paid in full on or before the last working day of the previous scheduled swim school term, or bookings will be cancelled. We will allow you to pay for lessons in advance in installments prior to the start of term.
Q. Can I start part way through the term?
A. Yes you can. You will only be charged for the balance of lessons remaining.
Q. Do lessons take place on public holidays?
A. No, if a public holiday falls on the day you would normally come for lessons, no lessons are held and the term fees are prorated accordingly.
Q. If I book for lessons, can I swim free of charge on other days?
A. All children 16 years and under can swim at council-operated pools free of charge with the appropriate accompanying adult. There are reduced entry fees for the accompanying adult. Learn to Swim programme participants aged 17 years and over are able to gain entry into the centre up to 90 minutes before the start of lessons and use the pool facilities after each lesson. Casual entry charges apply on any other day you wish to use the pools. See our prices for more information.
Q. If my child is booked in can I, or other family members, swim on the same day?

Q. Can I go for a swim or a coffee while my child is in their swimming lesson?
A.This depends on the age of your child. For more information see our pool rules.
Q. Does my child have to wear water nappies?
A. All children under the age of 3 years must wear water nappies. These are available for purchase in our centres.
Q. Can I take private lessons through the Learn to Swim programme?
A. This varies between swim schools. Please contact your local swim school for more information.
Q. What happens if my child is sick and unable to attend?
A. We provide one sickness credit or make-up class per child per term. You must advise your swim school prior to the start of the lesson. See our terms and conditions for more information.
Q. What happens if a serious accident or illness stops my child from taking lessons for the term?
A. A booking suspension can be applied for through each swim school. Please contact your local swim school for more information.
